Meet our Wedding and Events Coordinator, Amber

With a love of all things weddings, we speak with our Wedding and Events Coordinator, Amber, to find out more about her passion for the industry.

Meet The Alverton’s Wedding and Events Coordinator, Amber Rose Caley

Wedding season is fast approaching and you might be starting to think about your own perfect day.

Our award-winning wedding team, Clare Buckler and Amber Rose Caley, help dozens of happy couples tie the knot every year.

We sat down with Wedding and Events Coordinator, Amber, to find out a bit more about her job and what she loves about wedding planning.

How and why did you become a Wedding Coordinator?

It all started with me helping to plan events, such as proms, when I was at school and sixth form. One of my teachers asked me if I had considered it as a career path and the idea sparked from there.

I went on to study Creative Events Management at Falmouth University, graduating in 2019 with first-class honours. When studying for my degree I spent a week shadowing the Events Manager at The Alverton and fell in love with the industry and the hotel.

A few months later she got back in touch and I was asked to join them for the summer wedding season as an assistant. Luckily I was offered a job as a part-time events administrator not long after, alongside working in the restaurant and finishing my studies.

I then took some time out when my daughter was born and COVID hit shortly after. Then in April 2021, when I was ready to return to work, I was offered my dream job as Wedding and Events Coordinator, I couldn’t believe it!

As cheesy as it is, I chose this job as I have a passion for making people happy. Standing behind the scenes on a wedding day and seeing a couple you’ve worked with beaming, having the best day of their lives is just an incredible feeling.

What does your day-to-day job entail?

My usual day is made up of time at my desk answering emails and phone calls from our lovely couples, as well as face-to-face appointments, showing people around the hotel, and discussing ideas for their dream day.

No day is ever the same, as we also plan corporate and private events as well as weddings.

What is your favourite part about the job?

It’s too difficult to pick one!

One of my favourite parts of the job is coordinating a wedding on the day with my amazing manager, Clare.

I love running around doing all the little things behind the scenes that help make the day run so smoothly. From helping to pin buttonholes on the groomsmen, to moving guests to the Great Hall so nobody sees the blushing bride. Between Clare and I we run a tight operation to ensure everything goes to plan.

Another thing I love about being a Wedding Coordinator is all the connections I have made with other suppliers and industry professionals. The wedding community here in Cornwall is the best, and I’ve found everyone supports each other which is just incredible. Setting up and decorating a wedding with other suppliers often feels like fun rather than hard work.

What is the most important thing to remember when planning a wedding?

I think one of the most important things to remember is to try and take the time on your wedding day with just yourself and your partner and stop to enjoy the moment. You will find that the day will fly by with family and friends wanting to take photos, chat and dance with you, so you should definitely make time to enjoy little snippets of just the two of you where you can.

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding soon?

I would say it’s never too early to start planning. The more you do earlier on, the less stress you have in the build-up to the big day. Whether it’s as simple as making to-do lists, or Pinterest boards – start early so you can enjoy the planning process, rather than finding it a chore because you’ve left it too late.

Our award-winning venue can host weddings of all shapes and sizes. If you’d like to plan your dream wedding at The Alverton – get in touch with our exceptional team who will help you plan your perfect day.
