You nominated your NHS heroes over lockdown, and we are delighted to be offering every single nominee a complimentary stay in our newly named Captain Tom Moore Suite.

Introducing the Captain Tom Moore Suite

Formerly known as our Chapel Suite, we have renamed this beautiful Junior Suite after fundraising legend and World War II veteran Captain Thomas Moore.

Captain Tom Moore raised a staggering £32 million for the NHS at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. In keeping with his heroic efforts, we want to do our bit to support NHS staff during these difficult times.

At The Alverton, we asked you to nominate your NHS hero who deserves a bit of pampering and relaxation in this beautiful room. We received over 100 emails, full of truly inspirational and hard-hitting stories from the loved ones of NHS workers.

The many emails we received were extremely moving. Therefore, we are delighted to announce that every single nominee has been contacted and invited for a complimentary stay. These are just a few quotes from the entries we received about the deserving NHS workers:

“I’m nominating my daughter Anna. Although concerned for her own health, she has looked after patients who have or who are suspected to have COVID-19. This has been physically and emotionally draining but she still turns up at 7am to begin another shift.”

“Please could I nominate my sister Louise. Louise works as an OT in critical care but was up-skilled during the pandemic to support the nursing staff in ITU. She supports COVID-19 patients daily. She has held the hands of the dying and cried with them. Louise has been so brave and is my hero. Witnessing things we can’t imagine and doing a job she never signed up for.”

“I’d like to nominate my friend Leanne. She is a senior paramedic for the NHS. Even before the virus broke out she has always put in so many extra hours. I remember her saying her working week consists of 50+ hours – she definitely deserves a break.”

“I’d like to nominate my sister Abigail, a midwife at Treliske Hospital. She has asthma herself but still puts herself on the front line to care for her patients.”

“I would like to nominate my amazing boyfriend Simon, an Emergency Care Assistant based at St Austell Ambulance Station. He has moved out as I am asthmatic to keep myself and my children safe. Staying in a friend’s empty house, he is doing his usual long shifts. But then he has no one to come home to for a hug, chat or just a little bit of company.”

Nominations are now closed for the free stay in the Captain Tom Moore Suite, but if you missed out on the chance to be nominated, have no fear. We thought it was so wonderful to see businesses offering NHS discount – hotels, restaurants, takeaways and shops all coming together to show their gratitude.

This is why we’ve decided to offer NHS staff the very same special perks reserved for our own hotel staff. NHS workers will be offered our friends and family rates at The Alverton, and our sister hotel The Greenbank. This will run until a year after the UK’s first national lockdown, so 23rd March 2021. After this time, it will apply to winter stays only, and the best possible room we have available on the day will be offered at these extra special discounted rates.

“Since reopening in July, we have seen a very busy month in Cornwall. However, we have not forgotten the pledges made during lockdown. After careful consideration on how best to proceed, we have now come up with a plan to ensure our amazing, inspiring and hard-working NHS workers get the VIP treatment they deserve.”

“We want the NHS to feel like part of our extended family here at the Cornwall Hotel Collection. This is why we are offering them the friends and family rate we give our own staff members. We also want to throw a special VIP party for NHS workers with lots of complimentary treats and surprises. More details will be released once the time is right and in line with government guidelines.”
