Heritage houses reopen

Throughout Cornwall

March is when all of our favourite Cornish heritage houses start opening their doors again after temporarily closing for the winter months. 

Spend the day strolling around the grounds and browsing the intricate interiors of these historic houses. Among the houses opening their doors again are Lanhydrock on 3rd March, Trerice near Newquay which opens on 4th March, and Tintagel Old Post Office  reopening 10th March.

A Taste of Truro

In celebration of St Piran’s Day, Head Chef, Ollie Wyatt, has created a six course tasting menu filled with expertly curated Cornish dishes with a modern Alverton twist.

Unique Kernow-inspired dishes include delicate scallops and seaweed from Fowey, Cornish lamb with anchovies and salsa vierge and Ollie’s Newlyn inspired ‘fish & chips’. An optional wine flight will also be available on the night.

St Piran's Day celebrations

Towns across Cornwall

St Piran’s Day (Gool Peran in Cornish) is Cornwall’s official national day and takes place on Sunday 5th March. There are no shortage of ways to celebrate on St Piran’s weekend, with many Cornish towns doing their own festivities. 

On Saturday 4th March, Truro will host a day of St Piran’s celebrations including a farmer’s market, pasty competition, and a dance workshop. The festivities will culminate in a St Piran’s parade to the tune of Cornish songs and a special performance by the City of Truro Male Choir. Meanwhile, Redruth will hold their own festivities including a parade, singers and plenty of family-friendly workshops.

Pull out your leg warmers and get your dancing shoes on as you journey back to the 1980s for this nostalgic gig. 

Liverpool’s Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon return with hits like Wishful Thinking, Black Man Ray and King in a Catholic Style, along with new songs.

Mother’s Day afternoon tea

Indulge her sweet tooth this Mother’s Day with this decadent Mother’s Day afternoon tea at The Alverton. 

For £25 per person, savour expertly crafted homemade scones, elegant finger sandwiches and divine homemade cakes and bite size desserts. Tuck into three tiers of decadent treats whilst taking the historical ambience of The Alverton’s Great Hall.

As a thank you for all they do, all mums will receive a gin and tonic on the house to wash down their afternoon tea.

Wines of the World Tasting Evening

At our Wine Tasting Evening, you can expect to leave feeling like a wine connoisseur, with all the best tips and advice served to you through the evening.

Our expert sommelier, Yohann Thuillier, will introduce you to six wines from lesser known wine-producing countries, alongside serving you a selection of nibbles.

The Great Hall Charity Quiz

Friday 24th March

Where

The Alverton, Truro

Head to The Alverton’s historical Great Hall for this ultimate quiz night. Put your knowledge to the test, while raising money for our partner charity, the Cornwall Community Foundation.

Test your knowledge through the rounds that include everything from pop culture to history and much more. For those who come out trumps, you could be in with a chance of winning a three course dinner, an afternoon tea or cocktail vouchers. 

The evening starts at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £10 each, and can only be purchased as a table of four or six.

The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary at The Minack

Minack Theatre, Porthcurno

As the evenings get brighter and longer, open air theatre at the Minack once again takes the stage.

From the end of March the Minack, in partnership with Ha Hum Ah Theatre, will stage a production of The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary – an absurdist take on the 19th-century novel about a bored housewife. Just try not to be too distracted by the incredible views.
