What’s on this March in Cornwall
From a St Piran’s themed feast to heritage house visits and the ultimate charity quiz, Cornwall is bursting at the seams with things to do in March.
Heritage houses reopen
March is when all of our favourite Cornish heritage houses start opening their doors again after temporarily closing for the winter months.
Spend the day strolling around the grounds and browsing the intricate interiors of these historic houses. Among the houses opening their doors again are Lanhydrock on 3rd March, Trerice near Newquay which opens on 4th March, and Tintagel Old Post Office reopening 10th March.
A Taste of Truro
In celebration of St Piran’s Day, Head Chef, Ollie Wyatt, has created a six course tasting menu filled with expertly curated Cornish dishes with a modern Alverton twist.
Unique Kernow-inspired dishes include delicate scallops and seaweed from Fowey, Cornish lamb with anchovies and salsa vierge and Ollie’s Newlyn inspired ‘fish & chips’. An optional wine flight will also be available on the night.
Tickets are £60 per person.
St Piran's Day celebrations
St Piran’s Day (Gool Peran in Cornish) is Cornwall’s official national day and takes place on Sunday 5th March. There are no shortage of ways to celebrate on St Piran’s weekend, with many Cornish towns doing their own festivities.
On Saturday 4th March, Truro will host a day of St Piran’s celebrations including a farmer’s market, pasty competition, and a dance workshop. The festivities will culminate in a St Piran’s parade to the tune of Cornish songs and a special performance by the City of Truro Male Choir. Meanwhile, Redruth will hold their own festivities including a parade, singers and plenty of family-friendly workshops.
