Doggy Christmas Market

You’d be barking mad to miss this dog-friendly festive event, which kick-starts November events in Cornwall perfectly! Hosted at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge, this Christmas market is the pawfect place to shop for your pampered pooches or dog loving friends and family. From a shiny new lead to plush dog beds and artisan doggy treats, this yuletide market will certainly get tails wagging.

The perfect pastime when the weather outside is a bit mizzly and grey, grab some popcorn and find your new favourite movie of 2020. Fowey Christmas Market 2020
The time to start the Christmas shopping is upon us! Sadly, the popular and oh-so magical Fowey Christmas Market has been cancelled this year. But the organisers are determined not to let this stop them promoting the utterly fantastic local brands and businesses that would normally be setting up stalls and greeting customers.
On the 1st of November, the Fowey Christmas Market team will be launching an online local trade directory, where everyone can shop virtually for local makers, businesses and artisan products. This Christmas it’s more important than ever to shop local and support small businesses through the festive season. And with so many gorgeous stocking fillers, unique crafts and gift ideas for that someone special, we’re all spoilt for choice in Cornwall.
Ice-skating at The Eden Project

The Eden Project’s brilliant indoor ice-rink is back for the winter months. Strap on your skates and wrap up warm in woolly hats, scarves and jumpers to show off your moves on the ice.

Fused Glass Workshop
10 minute walk from The Alverton
Learn a new skill and create a handcrafted glass keepsake at these small fused glass workshops. Hosted by Colours Cafe, join a group of up to six and get creative. On 3rd November the class will be focussed on creating a free-standing waved piece inspired by scenes from the beach. The 17th November class is a chance to craft your own miniature glass trinket dish.
Tin Coast Walking Tours: Botallack Mine
1 hour walk from The Alverton
Lovers of coastal walks or an interest in Cornish history will love these guided walks that meander around tin mines and old engine houses. Join Ben Sutcliffe and Mary Woodvine for a walking tour around Botallack Mine, perched dramatically on the Cornish cliffs.
The Alverton's Winter Session with Our Atlantic Roots
Introducing our first Winter Session, following on from the popular Summer Garden Sessions. On 6th November we’ll be welcoming indie-folk duo Our Atlantic Roots to The Great Hall stage for musical entertainment from 5pm – 10pm. The Alverton's Autumn Afternoon Tea Party
It’s time for tea! This month, join us in The Great Hall for a curiously wonderful afternoon tea party. To make this event extra special, we’ve invited along Roger Miners, a talented local pianist to entertain whilst you indulge in an afternoon of foodie treats.

Community Tree Planting

Free to attend, join the team at Mount Pleasant Eco Park for a community day of planting and pruning trees. The aim is to plant hundreds of trees, and every volunteer will receive a free lunch for getting involved.
Murder on the Nile

Our sister hotel, The Greenbank, will be transported back in time to 1950s Egypt at their latest murder mystery night. Murder on the Nile will be performed by talented Cornish theatre group Murder by Appointment. Expect drama, scandal and the discovery of a body as you dine on an exclusive three course menu and watch the plot unfold. Work with your group to piece together all the clues and make your predictions on ‘whodunnit’.

Festive Cocktail Masterclasses with Colwith Farm Distillery

Creative Art Journalling

If you are looking for a new creative hobby to keep you occupied whilst curled up at home with a hot chocolate, this creative art journalling workshop will be right up your street. Head to Penryn with your own A4 hardcover sketchbook with blank pages and prepare to be inspired. All materials such as handmade papers, inks, oil pastels, and recycled materials will be provided. The class will explore experimental techniques including collage, stamping and mixed media, as well as creative writing prompts to encourage goal setting, intentions and positivity.
Tarquin's Gin Club at The Alverton
Let the weekend be-gin on Friday 20th November, as we welcome the Tarquin’s team to our magnificent Great Hall. They’ll be telling us all about their distillery based on the north Cornish coast and handing out samples of their award-winning products. Sink into a homemade G&T on arrival and learn how to make the perfect gin cocktail from Tarquin’s and our other guest mixologists.

Festive Afternoon Tea Party
A little sprinkle of magic never goes amiss at The Alverton, especially during the festive season. On Sunday 22nd November, we’ll be offering a sneak peek of our much-loved festive afternoon tea, before it makes its dazzling return to our menus in December. Hosted in the beautiful Great Hall which will be decked out in twinkling lights and tinsel, we’re ready to get merry at our little oasis in the city. Most importantly, to put us in the Christmas spirit, we’ll also be joined by pianist Roger Miners who will be playing a jolly great set-list of all our favourite carols and seasonal tunes.

Made in Cornwall Christmas Fair

The Made in Cornwall Christmas Fair is a firm diary date in Truro’s festive calendar. Despite a reduction in the number of traders allowed this year, we’re delighted to hear that this event is still set to go ahead. Spread over three weeks, head to Lemon Quay and peruse fantastic Cornish products, from homemade jewellery to moreish fudge and dreamy artwork. When you’re done, why not pop up to see us at The Alverton for a warming tipple?
The Working Boat Supper Club: The Sea and Steak Night

Our Executive Chef will be cooking up a feast for the eyes and the taste buds at The Working Boat at the end of November. The Cornish pub are launching their first Working Boat Supper Club, and the theme for November is ‘The Sea and Steak’. From succulent seafood to flame-licked steak, head to Falmouth for five courses of surf ‘n’ turf inspired cuisine and meet Nick, Ryan and the team. If you’re in the mood to start the weekend early with a few tipples, an accompanying beer flight paired to each course by event sponsors Verdant Brewing Co is also on the menu.

The Enchanted Christmas Market

The Royal Cornwall Showground will be transformed into a festive grotto during the last weekend of November. Whilst the event still promises to be a magical affair, shoppers will have to pre-book their time slot to the Enchanted Christmas Market and social distancing and mask wearing is essential.
