The Alverton’s Insider Guide: 24 hours in Newquay
One of the most popular towns in Cornwall, there are so many exciting things to do in Newquay. From independent cafes, to breathtaking beaches and watersports - here’s how we’d recommend spending 24 hours in Newquay.
8am – 9am: Fuel up at breakfast
A delicious breakfast is a great start to any day, and in Newquay you’re spoiled for choice on cafes. Box and Barber, Fore Street Cafe, and Pavilion are just some of our recommendations for a hearty cooked brekky, or a coffee and pastry.
9am – 11am: Take a surf lesson
Renowned for being the surf capital of the UK, you can’t visit Newquay without pulling on a wetsuit and getting in the water! Learn from the experts and book a group lesson or private session with Newquay Activity Centre.
12pm – 1pm: Pause for a pasty
After an energetic morning of surfing, refuel with a piping hot pasty from one of the many Cornish bakeries in the town. A pasty tastes ten times more satisfying when paired with a sea view. Take your lunch on the go with a stroll along one of the eleven beaches that graces Newquay’s coastline.
1pm – 3pm: Explore an underwater world at Blue Reef Aquarium
Admire the vibrant underwater ecosystems that reside under the surface of our oceans. From schools of fish, to creatures in shells, starfish, and sharks – a visit to the aquarium is one of our favourite things to do in Newquay.
3pm – 5pm: Admire Trenance Gardens and play some crazy golf
Head back outside into nature for the remainder of the afternoon, with a visit to Trenance Gardens. Admire swans that glide across a peaceful boating lake, elegant rose bushes in bloom, and a backdrop of rolling fields framed by birch and white cherry trees. Be sure to take a swing at the crazy golf course whilst you’re visiting.
5pm – 7pm: Sink a few by the sea at Fistral Beach Bar
After a long day of activities, kick back and relax at the iconic Fistral Beach Bar. Enjoy a perfectly poured pint, with uninterrupted ocean views. This is the perfect spot for catching one of Newquay’s famously spectacular sunsets over a refreshing tipple or two.
7pm – 9pm: Tuck into some local Cornish seafood
End your day out dining at one of Newquay’s many noteworthy restaurants. For the ultimate Cornish coastal experience, tuck into some seafood caught on your doorstep. We’d highly recommend The Fish House at Fistral Beach, or The Boathouse.
10pm: Kick off your shoes and sink into a suit at The Alverton
After a day exploring Cornwall’s most vibrant town head back to our hotel on the hill for a night of pure relaxation. Just a stone’s throw from Newquay, it’s the perfect spot to continue the night with a few hand-crafted cocktails before falling sound asleep in one our luxurious rooms.
