‘Taste of Truro’: a celebration of The Duchy’s game scene
Join us on Saturday 7th October in The Library for a celebration of Cornwall's incredible game meat offering.
A Taste of Truro evening: a glorious game feast
Take your seat at our dinner table for the next ‘Taste of Truro’ evening, our series of events delving deep into the best of Cornish cuisine.
On Saturday 7th October, we’ll be turning our attention to Cornwall’s wild game scene. The rolling fields of farmland and countryside, nestled on the outskirts of towns and villages, have been home to historic game estates that date back hundreds of years. This particular group of meat lends itself to the traditional Cornish recipes passed down for generations, which is why we’re dedicating an evening to these delicious ingredients.
Our Head Chef Ollie Wyatt, born and bred in Cornwall, is no stranger to Cornish way of cooking. He has combined his expert knowledge in preparing The Duchy’s game, with his passion for creating showstopper dishes that create conversation long after plates are cleared, to conjure up an impressive six-course tasting menu.
Join fellow foodies at our Taste of Truro evening in championing the best game in the county. Whether you’ve tried some of these meats before, or you’re broadening your palette and trying something new – you’re in safe hands with our chefs.
Indulge in our six course tasting menu
The six-course dinner will start with elegant rabbit rillette, soda bread and Coronation pheasant canapes. Warm up your tastebuds and get to know the fellow foodies in the room, before our mouthwatering amuse-bouche of duck carpaccio with fresh hits of orange, pesto and carrot. Next up is a quail and wild mushrooms starter, followed by a seafood duo of trout and clams, served with pink grapefruit, avocado and cucumber.
For the main event, our melt-in-the-mouth Westcountry venison will be served with a homemade croquette, devilled liver, orange and cranberry relish, and a whisky and green peppercorn cream drizzle. We’ll be ending the evening on a sweet note, with a creamy, decadent white chocolate and Baileys semifreddo, and a taster of Cornish cheese.
The ultimate foodie experience
Our Taste of Truro evening is more than just a set menu with a theme. Every ingredient has been thoughtfully selected for maximum taste impact. Cherry picked from the hero produce of the season, and sourced locally wherever possible, you’ll be sitting down for a dinner to remember.
Immerse yourself fully in the theatre of the night. Sip wine, take your time on each mouthful, and listen closely as Head Chef Ollie shares his secret tips and tricks for each dish.
Add an extra layer of indulgence to the evening, and choose to pair your six-courses with the addition of a glass of wine matched perfectly to each dish. Our in-house sommelier Holly has worked with Ollie and his team of chefs to craft a six-course wine flight that complements the flavour profiles of the ingredients used. Our wine flight is an additional £35 per person.
