Meet Wedding Photographer Paul Keppel

We catch up with wedding photographer Paul Keppel, who is fast becoming one of Cornwall’s most desired photographers in the wedding industry.

What's most important to you as a wedding photographer when it comes to the big day?

Every wedding is totally unique.

What’s most important to me is to capture beautiful and emotive images that naturally unfold. A story of moments that bring back amazing memories that couples will treasure.

What's the most common question you get asked by a couple?

The most common comment I hear from a couple is “I hate having my photograph taken”.

This is where I reassure them and put them at ease. 90% of the wedding day is shot in a natural, candid, documentary style. When I photograph couple portraits I’m looking for flattering light, a nice background and to let the couple do their thing. If it starts to look a little static, I am there to help create a variety of images and can offer guidance if needed. It means that there will always be a great shot they’ll be truly proud of.

If you had one piece of advice for a couple when it comes to their big day what would it be?

The best piece of advice I can offer – allow enough time.

I’ve had brides still in their dressing gown two minutes before the wedding ceremony rushing to get into their dress. The last hour before the ceremony goes in a flash. The earlier everyone is ready, the more time there is to capture the photographs couples want. Also it means there isn’t a mad dash and couples can enjoy their day.

What shot do you always recommend couples aim for at The Alverton?

I think I’m known for the balcony shots in the Great Hall.

Each one I’ve photographed I’ve tried to do different from the last. I won an international award for the military balcony shot I photographed for a couple who booked me because they loved the previous image I created at The Alverton.

What's the best thing about shooting at The Alverton?

One of the best things about shooting at The Alverton Hotel is the personal stamp that each bride and groom put on their wedding.

I love walking into The Great Hall and seeing how different the venue can look. It’s amazing the attention to detail couples put into their wedding day. That’s why I always try and capture as many of the details I can.

Having the ceremony and reception in the same location, like at The Alverton, gives me more time to photograph the couple and their family.

Why should couples choose The Alverton for their venue?

The Alverton is a great choice for couples.

It not only offers an amazing service, which has been acknowledged by numinous awards, it can host small or large numbers of wedding guests. It can accommodate guests which is great for couples who live further afield. The hotel’s traditional and stylish interior gives the wow factor to encapsulate a magical day all under the one roof.
