How We Gave Back in 2023
What to know how we gave back in 2023? We're pleased to share that we donated £8,000 to local charities this year, following a calendar of fundraising initiatives.
Since 2022, we have been fundraising for Cornwall Community Foundation, alongside our sister hotel, The Greenbank, pledging to support the charity’s mission to help front-line, volunteer-led organisations making positive impacts in local areas around the county.
The latest contribution comes following a series of events we’ve hosted alongside The Greenbank, as well as guest donations. The recipients of the money, Penn An Dre Resident’s Association (PADRA) in Truro and Pendennis Leisure Community Interest Organisation in Falmouth, were voted on by the volunteer committee from each hotel. This month, Pendennis Leisure CIO in Falmouth was gifted £3,000, and £5,000 was donated to Penn An Dre Resident’s Association (PADRA) in Truro.
The funds were raised in a variety of ways, including adding a voluntary £2 per direct hotel booking donation. As well as this, our team hosted quizzes with local businesses donating raffle prizes and Saffion from our reception team participated in The Rat Race, a 24-hour ultra-marathon event on The Roseland, raising over £1,000 alone.
Ben Young, Managing Director at The Greenbank and The Alverton, said: “It’s heartening to see our sister hotels join forces for a common cause, reflecting our commitment to the people and projects that make Cornwall such a special place.”
“Our hotels are not just places to stay; they are integral parts of the communities they serve. While our guests enjoy the beauty of Cornwall, we can’t ignore the pockets of need that exist so close by. These communities rely on the support of local businesses, especially in the face of today’s challenges. We are profoundly grateful to all those who have rallied behind this unique charity initiative, including the other local businesses that donated prizes to ensure the raffles were a success. The funds we’ve raised are a beacon of hope for Cornwall’s local community groups, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will make.”
PADRA closely cooperate with All Saints Church parish, Cornwall Council and the residents of Penn An Dre estate, helping to solve local issues, promote community spirit and bring residence together to ensure the peaceful cohabitation of all residents.
Andrew Hall, PADRA’s Chairman, said: “PADRA is an active organisation that strives to help bring an essence of togetherness into the local communities. The generous donation will give us the ability to reach out to those younger individuals, helping them thrive into today’s world, teaching life skills, and even aiding them making new friendships.”
Pendennis Leisure CIO’s mission is to re-open the Ships and Castles leisure centre and improve swimming, well-being and leisure facilities for the people of Falmouth, Penryn and the surrounding villages, as well as importantly protecting the Pendennis headland from development.
Gemma Adams, Pendennis Leisure Trustee, said: “We are massively grateful to The Greenbank for their support through Cornwall Community Foundation. Their funding has helped make it possible for us to open the Pendennis Community Centre for café, classes and community activities.”
No strangers to fundraising, our amazing team have long been recognised for their dedication to community engagement and giving back to Cornwall. This includes previously raising over £30,000 collectively for Cornwall Air Ambulance’s New Heli Appeal alongside The Greenbank. We’re also key business supporters of Cornwall Community Foundation – a charitable organisation dedicated to empowering local communities across the county. Their mission is to support projects that make a lasting and positive impact on the region, focusing on various sectors, including education, social welfare, and the environment.
