What’s On In Cornwall This February 2020

February is full of quirky things to do in Cornwall, including a puppet festival, Cornish pasty week and choir singing.

27TH JANUARY - 14TH MARCH: THE FESTIVAL OF CURIOUS PUPPETRY, THE POLY, FALMOUTH

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

Whimsical characters and mythical creatures are making their way to The Poly in Falmouth for a wonderful festival of puppetry performances and exhibitions. This event definitely has strings attached!

8TH FEBRUARY: WINTER GIN FESTIVAL, THE GREENBANK, FALMOUTH

Where: 25 minute drive from The Alverton

With dry January a thing of the past, it's time to indulge in your favourite tipples. If you're a lover of gin, this is one to mark in your diary. Our sister hotel, The Greenbank, are hosting a gin-tastic festival, full of local distilleries and craft gin suppliers, live music and tasty treats. Head to their Eventbrite page for tickets.

9TH AND 16TH FEBRUARY: SNOWDROP SUNDAYS, PENCARROW HOUSE AND GARDENS, BODMIN

Where: 40 minute drive from The Alverton

Delicate white petals blooming across the county mark the impending arrival of spring. Head to Pencarrow House and Gardens on one of these Sundays, when the gardens will be open for visitors to admire the pretty flowers in all their glory. A suggested donation of £5 is recommended at this charity led floral event. All the proceeds go towards the two chosen charities, CLEAR and Parkinsons Research.

10TH FEBRUARY: ST IVES FEAST AND HURLING THE SILVER BALL, ST IVES

Where: 45 minute drive from The Alverton

St Ives Feast Day is an ancient tradition, where the coastal town celebrates the anniversary of the consecration of the Parish Church of St Eia in 1434. A civil procession takes place through the winding streets, ending with a blessing by the Mayor at St la Well near Porthmeor Beach. Once the blessing is completed, one of Cornwall's oldest sports - the traditional hurling of the silver ball - commences. This involves a giant silver ball being roll around St Ives. Get involved in this special day in the town's history this month.

15TH - 16TH FEBRUARY: APPLE GRAFTING AT COTEHELE, SALTASH

Where: 1 hour 15 minute drive from The Alverton

Learn a new skill this month with apple grafting workshops at Cotehele. With exclusive access to the National Trust's Tamar Valley trees, this is the perfect pastime for keen gardeners or those looking to improve their green fingers.

15TH - 23RD FEBRUARY: COLOUR UNCOVERED, THE EDEN PROJECT, ST AUSTELL

Where: 40 minute drive from The Alverton

A kaleidoscope of colour is causing a splash at The Eden Project this February half term. An opportunity to get hands-on and creative, kids are invited to work with an artist to create a giant multicoloured art installation. Take a tour of the bright and vivid colours found in nature with the Living Colour Trail and learn how to make art out of practically any item.

17TH - 21ST FEBRUARY: SCIENCE OF THE SEA SHOWS, NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM, FALMOUTH

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

For family fun with a bang this half term, the National Maritime Museum has just the thing to keep everyone entertained. Overlooking the marina in Falmouth, the museum is offering a live, expert-led science show to wow children and parents this month. Expect magical fog, explosive water and curious chemistry demonstrated in exciting experiments with plenty of audience interaction to keep everyone on their toes and involved!

20TH - 22ND FEBRUARY: BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL WORLD TOUR, REGAL THEATRE, REDRUTH

23RD - 29TH FEBRUARY: CORNISH PASTY WEEK 2020

In February, the famous Cornish pasty takes centre stage, as locals across the county gather to pay homage to these golden filled pastry delicacies. On the 23rd February, don't miss out on a week of fun activities surrounding the pasty, ending with the 'Oggy Oscars', the ninth-annual World Pasty Championships hosted at The Eden Project. Battle it out in the kitchen and whip up some perfectly crimped pasties at one of the tastiest events in Cornwall this month.
