Truro Farmers Market

Where: 10 minute drive from The Alverton

Soak up the sumptious smells of freshly baked bread, shop for Cornish products such as cheeses, fish and locally-grown vegetables, or find that perfect gift in home-made jams, sauces and other artisan crafts. Truro Farmers Market has been going strong on the streets of the city for 20 years. This month, look out for the white and green striped stalls that boast the best produce our county has to offer.

Playfest

1st - 2nd August

Cattle Market Fields, Truro

Where: 5 minute drive from The Alverton

As part of National Playday and proudly supported by The Alverton, Playfest is a celebration of childrens’ rights to play and have fun, and the importance it has on their well-being. This two-day festival is hosted in Truro’s cattle market fields.

Let your children run wild and unleash their imagination, with circus skill workshops, have-a-go sessions, circus performance shows, entertainers, a variety of arts and crafts workshops, stalls, face painting, music, dance, yoga and fairground rides. Suitable for all ages, entry to this event is free, but some activities do have a cost and need to be booked on the Playfest website.

Our Summer Garden Sessions are continuing every Friday throughout August. Relax on our sunshine-filled terrace, then let head chef Simon George serve you up a treat from the outdoor grill before enjoying two for £10 cocktails. Each evening a local musician or duo will entertain with live music, so make sure you check out the line-up and get ready for the best garden party in the city!

Boardmasters

Boardmasters is back! Cornwall’s biggest surf and music festival takes place every August, and is set to make waves this year with a star-studded line-up. Dance along to huge names such as Florence and the Machine, Dizzee Rascal, Jorja Smith, Lewis Capaldi, The Wombats and many more! The five day coastal festival has been going since 1981 and aims to celebrate all things surf in Cornwall.

Falmouth Week

9th - 18th August

Falmouth

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

Head to Falmouth for a week and a half of celebrations at this annual event. From sky-walking air show extraordinares to live performances, fireworks and a lively carnival, Falmouth town will be buzzing with festivities to honour the yacht and boating history of Cornwall’s much-loved maritime town.

Events Square will be the hub for most of the action, but check out other Falmouth venues such as The Working Boat who have exciting schedules and events happening all week.

Knightor Winery Wine Tour and Tasting

St Austell

Where: 40 minute drive from The Alverton

Become a wine connoisseur and join a tour and wine tasting at Knightor Winery. Based in St Austell, you’ll be guided around by a winemaker who will explain how the popular tipple is made by this much-loved Cornish brand.

Choose between a tour alone, or added food pairing. Each masterclass is fun, informal and unique. Don’t miss out on these hour and a half tours and make sure you book your place. Cheers to that!

Cornwall Folk Festival

22nd - 26th August

Wadebridge

Where: 45 mins drive from The Alverton

This year will be the 46th Cornwall Folk Festival. This annual event takes place in various venues across Wadebridge, when the whole town comes together to sing and dance to live music.

Join in the fun at concerts, ceilidhs, sessions and workshops whilst sampling local Cornish food and enjoying a wide choice of Cornish real ales and ciders. Some of the confirmed acts include The Unthanks, Steve Knightley, Midnight Skyracer and Noble Jacks, with many more to follow.

Cornwall Pride

24th August

Newquay

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

Cornwall Pride will be returning for the 12th year running in Newquay. With a vibrant parade planned to flow through the streets, the day is all about standing loud and proud to support LGBT and wider communities, eliminating discrimination and celebrating equality and all love.

After the parade, the Rainbow Fest will be held at the famous ‘Killacoourt’ and is a free event for all to attend. There will be live music, face painting and local stalls at this family friendly festival. Keep the pride vibe going all night long and join in the Moonbow Party from 8pm-2am, which is a ticketed over 18s party hosted at Tall Trees in Newquay.

Sea Swim Festival

24th August

Polkerris Beach, Par

Where: 45 mins drive from The Alverton

Get your swimwear at the ready for the Sea Swim Festival in Par. This mass-participation open water sea swimming event takes place on Polkerris Beach, and is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself to beat a swim distance personal best. The event offers a choice of a 1km, 2km, or 3km distances, with prizes to be won and the chance to meet new people and swimming enthusiasts.

Polperro Fishermen's Choir

28th August

Where

Polperro Chapel, Looe

Where: 1 hour 5 mins drive from The Alverton

Polperro Fishermen’s Choir were formed back in 1923, and are a part of Cornish history with many charities benefiting from their passion to sing. In August, the famous choir will be performing a concert at Polperro Chapel to support the Stroke Association. Head down to Looe to listen to the beautiful melodies and help raise money for a fantastic cause.
