Things to do in Cornwall this October

With a slight nip in the air and the nights drawing in, October starts to feel wintry, but it isn’t a sleepy month - it’s as vibrant and alive as the rest of the year. We’ve pulled together five things to do this October in Cornwall - from island castles to beer festivals and scary storytelling to opera there’s a little something for everyone.

Oktoberfest, Truro

Friday 7th & Saturday  8th October
A five minute walk from The Alverton.
Bavarian beer by the barrel load, music from the Oompha Brass and a special appearance by Betty Stoggs (Cornwall’s very own beer maiden) is sure to make this year’s Oktoberfest the best yet.

From beer to baritone! Ellen Kent Opera returns to Truro with three epic productions - La Boheme, Nabucco, and Aida. Bringing together jealousy, love and revenge - it’s the perfect way to spend a wintery evening and just a moments walk from the hotel.

Falmouth Oyster Festival

13 - 16 October
A 27 minute drive from The Alverton or 20 minutes on the train.
For 20 years Falmouth has been celebrating the start of oyster dredging season, and what better way to celebrate the seas’ most delicate bounty than with four days of music, dance and oysters! Take the train from Truro to Falmouth so you can enjoy champagne with your shellfish.

Living Castle on St Michael’s Mount, Marazion

Running until 30 October
A 40 minute drive from The Alverton.
St Michael’s Mount in Marazion is quite simply beautiful. The majestic castle on top of a tidal island is something out of fairy tale, and has to be seen to be believed. Throughout October you can discover more about what it’s like to live on work on the island from the people who know best.

Dead of Night Dance by Rogue Theatre, Tehidy Woods
