The Best of Cornwall’s Festivals for summer 2019

We're announcing our line-up of Cornwall's best feel-good festivals you won't want to miss this summer.

14TH - 16TH JUNE: FALMOUTH SEA SHANTY FESTIVAL | THE WORKING BOAT, FALMOUTH

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

Sea shanties are a true musical tradition in Cornwall. Falmouth hosts this amazing Sea Shanty Festival annually and the town fills with the sound of the sea as the maritime heritage comes to life. Get involved and watch free performances by dozens of groups across the world. As well as falling in love with Falmouth's seafaring history, this event raises money for the RNLI. With performances throughout the town, The Working Boat situated below The Greenbank Hotel is also an official venue. With 16 performances over the three days including The Fisherman's Friends and Cadgwith Singers, it encapsulates Cornish culture and festival spirit. 

20TH JUNE - 3RD JULY: EDEN SESSIONS | THE EDEN PROJECT, ST AUSTELL

Where: 40 minute drive from The Alverton

During the summer months, the Eden Project becomes a unique live music venue to some big names in the industry. The biomes transform from translucent greenhouses to brightly coloured globes as night falls, with amazing acoustics to be savoured in the natural amphitheatre. This year sees the venue host its 100th session, and to mark the occasion, Nile Rogers & Chic are booked to perform. Other acts playing this summer include Stereophonics, Liam Gallagher, The Chemical Brothers, Snow Patrol and Kylie Minogue.

12TH - 14TH JULY: TROPICAL PRESSURE FESTIVAL | PORTHTOWAN

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

The Tropical Pressure Festival is happening in July in the seaside village of Porthtowan. With live acts from Colombia, Brazil, Kenya, Cuba, Jamaica and the UK, this weekend will be bursting with a celebration of culture. Serving all vegetarian food at the World Food Market, you can enjoy cuisines from all over the globe. After dark, the venue morphs into a sparkly wonderland, with an enchanted dancefloor and tropical silent disco among other vibrant events. It's all things bright and beautiful at this festival.

25TH - 28TH JULY: PORT ELIOT FESTIVAL | PORT ELIOT ESTATE, ST GERMANS

Where: 1 hour drive from The Alverton

Named by The Times as "the most magical festival around", Port Eliot Festival is a combination of art, food, literature and live music. Held in the grounds of the ancient Port Eliot estate, the four days are crammed with a range of inspiring workshops and talks aimed towards a variety of ages. Not to mention the most scrumptious food and drink, outdoor adventures, wild swimming and a raucous 'after hours' party scene. Festivals in Cornwall don't get much better than this.

26TH - 28TH JULY: LEOPALLOOZA | THE WYLDES, BUDE

Where: 1 hour drive from The Alverton

Known as 'the greatest house party in a field', Leopallooza is a multi award-winning, grass roots music festival that celebrates fresh, up-and-coming and successful bands, singers and DJs. Set in The Wyldes in Bude, expect a lively, family friendly party hidden in the depths of the Cornish Valley. Over 100 brilliant acts will be taking to the stage over the three nights, with free camping on site, or an option to upgrade to the festival's glamping site.

7TH - 11TH AUGUST: BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL | NEWQUAY

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

Bring your surfboard and your sunglasses to this big beach party. Boardmasters Festival's eight stages span across the scenic Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay in Newquay. Sing, dance, surf and skate to musical stars such as Florence and The Machine, Dizzee Rascal, The Wombats, Plan B and Jorja Smith, to name just a few!

9TH - 18TH AUGUST: FALMOUTH WEEK | FALMOUTH

Where: 30 minute drive from The Alverton

Falmouth Week is an annual event for the seaside town and much loved amongst visitors and locals alike. Featuring fireworks, a perfomance from The Wurzels, Pink Wig Night which raises money for breast cancer charities, and the legendary 80s vs 90s party - the town is buzzing with activities throughout the ten days. Top tip: head to The Working Boat's lively events marquee on their private quay for a whole host of free events.

22ND - 26TH AUGUST: CORNWALL FOLK FESTIVAL | WADEBRIDGE

Where: 40 minute drive from The Alverton

With acts from across the world, this long running festival takes over Wadebridge offering music on every corner. Noble Jacks, The Unthanks and Flats and Sharps are amongst the artists performing over the August bank holiday. You can also find singers and instrument workshops, street entertainment, tune sharing sessions, children’s games and face painting.

27TH - 30TH AUGUST: BUDE JAZZ FESTIVAL | BUDE

Where: 1 hour 15 minute drive from The Alverton

Enjoy brass bands and jazz music in Bude at the end of August. With a busy programme of musical acts, it's sure to be a fun-filled four days. Relax and enjoy the catchy melodies performed by live bands that will have you up and tapping along to the rhythm in no time.

13TH - 15TH SEPTEMBER: THE LITTLE ORCHARD AND CIDER & MUSIC FESTIVAL | HEALEY'S CYDER FARM, PENHALLOW 

Where: 20 minutes drive from The Alverton

Healey's Cyder Farm in Penhallow offers three days of live music, secret cider walks, glamping in hobbit huts and even a silent disco and tractor rides. This festival is one of the most unique and magical events to attend this year. With headline acts from The Zutons, Mad Dog Mcrea and the Wurzels, you won't want to miss out on this family friendly weekend.

20TH - 22ND SEPTEMBER: LOOE LIVE! | LOOE

Where: 1 hour drive from The Alverton

With additional stages, more local acts and street entertainers performing throughout the town, and a new community zone, there will be even more on offer for local people and visitors to enjoy at this year's 'Looe Live!' - formally known as 'Looe Saves The Day'. The line up includes popular sea shanty group the Fisherman's Friends, The Shires and Level 42.

27TH - 29TH SEPTEMBER: TRURO FOOD FESTIVAL | TRURO

Where: 5 minute drive from The Alverton

New this year to the city of Truro, the Truro Food Festival aims to celebrate the best of Cornish food and drink. Centered on Lemon Quay, the festival will have pop-up events and activities, as well as a multitude of food and drink stands serving up delicious street food. A charity benefit gig to raise money for the Trussell Trust, a charity that works towards eliminating hunger and poverty in the UK, will be opening the three day event.
