Our New Year’s Resolutions for 2020

Continue to eliminate single-use plastic and go greener

Reducing our waste and avoiding single-use plastic is something we are passionate about at The Alverton. You only have to gaze across our beautiful private gardens or go for a walk along the Cornish coast to see how important the enviroment is to everyone in Cornwall.

Whilst we think we’ve made a good start by introducing refillable glass water bottles in all our rooms to replace plastic earlier in 2019, as well as eliminating plastic straws and pens, we know we can do more! This year one of our resolutions is to replace all the plastic toiletry bottles used in our rooms, and replace these with ceramic bottles created by a local potter. We’ll be following in the footsteps of our sister hotel, The Greenbank, who have already initiated this plastic-free scheme. Read more about it here.

More charity work with our new partnership

2019 was our busiest year yet in terms of charity work. This year we are determined to raise even more money. We are so excited to announce our partnership with Cornwall Community Foundation as our charity of the year. This organisation works with thousands of local community groups and charities in Cornwall, from food banks and mental health support centres to children’s youth clubs, elderly social events and Cornish beach cleans. We believe this is the perfect way for us to raise money across a whole range of worthy causes big and small.

We’re also setting up The Alverton Community Fund, where we will have our own grant panel made up of members of the hotel team, who will regularly vote for the individual charities, communities and projects to donate to. This means we can decide where our money is being spent. Watch this space for all our fundraising activities in 2020!

Our Head Chef Nick has served up some seriously unforgettable dishes over the last year. Nick and his team of talented chefs are excited to see what the new year brings. They plan to continue experimenting with flavours, textures and cooking techniques to bring you all unforgettable cuisine created from the best locally sourced ingredients Cornwall and the south west have to offer.
