Meet Cornish Wedding Photographers Mos & Maw

We speak with Jack and Emma, the photographers behind Mos and Maw, about their love of wedding photography in Cornwall.

______________

Jack and Emma were both working as photographers before they met. Both completing degrees in Cornwall, the pair knew they wanted to stay and work within the beautiful county. At a very young age, both Jack and Emma were extremely creative. Emma began taking photos to work in her textile designs and Jack has always been interested in the fine lines between painting and photography. Their education and creativity is evident in both their commercial and personal work.

What’s your favourite part of being a photographer?

We both find it such an honour to be asked to be part of any couple's wedding day, whether we are booked for a full day or just a few hours. They’ve trusted us with capturing one of the biggest memories of their lives and that instantly creates a bond between them and us, which always end up in friendship. This has to be the best thing about being a photographer. Meeting and working with amazing people and being confident in delivering imagery you know they're going to cherish forever.

What’s the best thing about photographing a wedding at The Alverton?

The Alverton is like no other hotel we’ve ever shot at. It feels more like a castle than a hotel. We shoot so many different venues across Cornwall, each with their own character and feeling. The Alverton is no different.

Each section of the hotel has its own magical touch. The main reception room where the ceremonies are held feels like something from a grand cathedral, the outside terrace feels like a romantic French castle, and the woodland area feels like a magical country retreat. We love how much variety there is. It makes our job as photographers much easier and gives couples plenty of choice when it comes to backdrops for their photographs.

What’s your favourite photo you’ve ever taken?

We shot a wedding at Carbis Bay last year in November. There had been a horrendous storm the night before, and we can remember dreading a day of torrential rain and gail force winds at a beach wedding! By some miracle the morning of the wedding everyone woke up to beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine. It was fate from the start.

We had met up with Tom and Mica before on the beach to scout some locations, Mica had one cave at the end of the beach she had always loved the look of, so we planned from that meeting to shoot some photos of her in this cave.

On the day Mica trekked across the beach, dress in hand, heels in the sand and made it to this beautiful cave. The rain the day before had created a small waterfall. The photo has such a Cornish atmosphere to it and Mica looks absolutely beautiful. She effortlessly posed herself and it just all naturally fell into place.

What’s your best piece of advice for a couple planning their big day?

Choose a photographer you know you love. As creatives, we have a unique style and way of working, and this is different with every photographer across the board. Find a photographer you trust and you will have nothing to worry about knowing they are capturing your day just how you want it. Knowing what you want from us really helps us when it comes to your big day. Create a Pinterest board; get ideas for locations and poses! We can discuss all of this before your wedding day so when it comes to photographs, we know exactly what we need to do.

Knowing the ‘spots’ that you’d like your couple's session in. We’ve always thought the field opposite The Alverton’s sister hotel The Greenbank would be a stunning location for photography. ESPECIALLY at sunset.

What’s the process once a couple enquires about you photographing their wedding?

Once the booking is secured we send a confirmation email and stay in touch regularly. The majority of our couples are booking a year or two in advance, so we want you to know your day is going to documented beautifully with no details missed right from the start. So you'll have one less thing to worry about! We quite often meet with the couple beforehand for a coffee and very informal chat just so we can say Hello.

We also offer an engagement shoot to get you used to being in front of a camera and how we work. We are always open to queries or worries. We are quite often chatting to brides late into the night simply because we are just as excited about their day as they are!

Why should couples choose The Alverton?

A wedding at The Alverton is undeniably seemless. The staff love and look after everyone. No query or question is too much and this takes any stress or worry away from the day. The venue holds a very romantic feel to it. Although set in the centre of a busy city, it feels as though you've been swept away to a magical countryside retreat. You have everything you need at The Alverton to completely relax and enjoy your big day, knowing all the details are being looked after.

______________

And why should they choose you?

We are a real life couple and we understand what love is and what it means. We love what we do and we love Cornwall. We were both lucky enough to be brought up in this county of wild landscapes, untamable seas and wonderful people. We know how special Cornwall is and we understand what it means to people. We genuinely love being wedding photographers.

We put our all into every wedding day, taking inspirations from our knowledge of photographic history and processes. There is something beautifully romantic about the traditional methods of photography and marrying this with the love and romance present at a wedding is what we do best. We strive to capture your day, your love and that little bit of Cornwall that means something to you in a unique and thought out way.
