From the 22nd September for three packed days Truro plays host to the Great Cornish Food Festival and this year The Alverton is joining in the fun.
The Great Cornish Food Festival, on Lemon Quay, celebrates all that is fantastic about Cornwall’s bountiful produce. There are demos from top chefs, a chance to meet the makers and opportunity to stock-up on Cornish food and drink.
For the entire week of the festival (18th - 24th September) Simon George, The Alverton's Head Chef, is serving up a specially designed three course menu championing seasonal produce.
Pan seared scallops with sweetcorn purée, pancetta and rocket will feature as a starter. As a main course, fillet of hake, landed in Newlyn, will be served with creamed leeks, kale and watercress. For pudding, apple tarte Tatin will be accompanied by blackberry caramel and fennel ice cream, made with Rodda’s Cream.
For those who enjoy a tipple, the hotel’s bar team have created a special Cornish cocktail. The Alverton’s Cornish Breakfast Martini includes Tarquin’s elderflower and pink grapefruit gin from Southwestern Distillery, Sisley’s three fruit marmalade and Cornish apple juice.
At 3pm on Sunday 24 August, The Alverton’s Beth Russell will be running a drinks masterclass at the Festival, and demonstrating how to make the Cornish Breakfast Martini as well as two other Cornish inspired cocktails.
