As one of Truro's oldest and most historic buildings, we are proud to stand firm as a pillar of support for this cathedral city's cherished community. Alongside providing an unforgettable experience for our guests, we work hard to offer a little help to those who need it.

CHC's Charity Coastal Convoy for Bliss

The Cornwall Hotel Collection has raised £4,000 for Bliss, the UK’s leading charity supporting babies born premature or sick. On Sunday 12th October, we laced up our walking boots and set off on a 17-mile journey from The Alverton to The Falmouth Hotel, with a stop at The Greenbank along the way. The route wound through stunning Cornish countryside, across the King Harry Ferry, and along the coast to Falmouth. We were joined by friends, family, and even a few four-legged companions, all walking for a cause close to our hearts.

For The Greenbank’s General Manager, Matt Garland, this fundraiser was especially meaningful. Matt and his partner Hannah have a personal connection to Bliss, after their son Jesse spent time in neonatal care. The £4,000 raised adds to a whopping £10,000 raised by the hotel group so far this year!

The Great Coast-to-Coast Charity Dinner for Hospitality Action

On 27th February 2025, The Alverton played host to an unforgettable celebration of Cornwall’s finest produce and hospitality at the inaugural Great Coast-to-Coast Charity Dinner. More than just a culinary event, this spectacular evening raised an incredible £16,000 for Hospitality Action, a charity dedicated to supporting those in the hospitality industry who’ve fallen on hard times.

The night brought together some of Cornwall’s most high-profile chefs, each lending their expertise to create a five-course dinner that showcased the very best of the county’s seafood, grass-fed meats, and harvest. It was an evening of gastronomic excellence, with dishes carefully paired with selected wines and beers, creating a dining experience that delighted all 120 guests in attendance.

Truro City Clean Up

On Friday 7th March 2025, we joined the Truro City Clean Up as part of the annual spring clean organised by Truro and Newham Business Improvement Districts (BIDs). From litter picking and cable-tie cutting, to removing stickers and cleaning local green spaces, it was a lovely morning tidying the beautiful city we are proud to call home. All helpers received pasties, tea and coffee back at The Alverton.

Our General Manager, Paul Ricketts shared, “It’s nice to have the opportunity to give something back to the community we exist in. We give to charity regularly, but it’s a different thing to be in the mix and doing it yourself.”

Grasshoppers Football Club

In December 2024, young players from Grasshoppers Football Club in Truro received an early Christmas gift – new football kits sponsored by the Cornwall Hotel Collection! Their coach Dale says, “The lads have loved the kit and a few of them have worn the jackets non-stop!”.

Community sponsorships is just one of the ways we can give back to our local community, and we were so pleased to support these young ballers for their latest season.

Charity of the year

Each year, we nominate a ‘Charity of the Year’, and pledge a goal amount to fundraise for this cause. For instance, in 2019 our chosen charity was Cornwall Air Ambulance’s New Heli Appeal. With help from The Greenbank we managed to raise a grand total of £34,000, from team sky-dives and a coastal walking challenge, to pub quizzes, charity auctions, and generous guest donations.

Six members of our team were brave enough to skydive for this amazing cause, raising around £4,000. Although, a decline in weather meant that only Managing Director, Ben Young, and Duty Manager, Jane Williams, were able to complete the jump.

Saff's charity run

In an incredible showcase of determination and perseverance, we were so proud to be sponsoring The Alverton’s own receptionist, Saff. During a 24-hour run in aid of the Cornwall Community Foundation, Saff completed a five-mile loop on 4th August 2023.

Running throughout the night and into the day, she managed to raise a whopping £1,110 for The Alverton’s charity of the year. We couldn’t be more delighted for her, well done Saff!

Cornwall Community Foundation

As proud supporters of the Cornwall Community Foundation, taking care of our community lies at the very heart of our ethos. This organisation works with thousands of local community groups and charities in Cornwall. Ranging from mental health support centres and food banks to children’s youth clubs, environmental causes and elderly social events, we believe that supporting CCF is a great way for us to raise money for a whole host of worthy causes.

In 2023, we partnered with our sister hotel, The Greenbank, to raise over £8,000 for two local charities under the Cornwall Community Foundation – Penn An Dre Resident’s Association in Truro, and Pendennis Leisure Centre CIO.

Fisherman's Mission Charity Dinner

On 13th October 2022, we co-hosted a charity dinner in aid of The Fisherman’s Mission. Working to support local fishermen and their families, this is a cause dear to many a Cornish heart. Guests were sung into the Great Hall by the Mevagissey shanty group Stuns’ls, who laid down a perfect atmosphere for the evening. Showcasing the very best seafood, grass-fed meats and harvest available across The Duchy in celebration of such a worthy charity, the evening was curated by some of Cornwall’s top chefs. St. Enodoc’s Guy Owen joined us, along with Kota’s Jude KereamaThe Rick Stein group’s Stephane Delourme and, of course, the Cornwall Hotel Collection‘s very own Nick Hodges and Darryl Collins. BBC Radio Cornwall‘s Daphne Skinnard assisted in hosting the evening and encouraged many a raised hand during the auction. With some top-quality local suppliers and businesses kindly donating some incredible prizes, the evening turned out to be a huge success, raising an impressive £5,500.
