Five Active Ways To Spend New Year’s Eve Day

Spend your New Year’s Eve Day in Cornwall by getting active and outdoors - happy new year!

Get your heartbeat pulsing with our five active ways to spend New Year’s Eve Day in Cornwall that are distinctively Cornish and outdoorsy. You’ll be ready and raring to go for 2019 after these high energy activities.

Go Coasteering

Water-based adventures aren’t just for the summer months in Cornwall!

You’ll find the ocean-mad team at Newquay Activity Centre togged up in wetsuits and sharing their expert tips in everything from surfing to stand-up paddle boarding 360+ days a year (including throughout the Christmas holidays). On New Year’s Eve they’re rallying up the locals for a charity ‘Cornish Castaway‘.

Take the plunge with them as they coasteer around the coast. Paddle their huge, super stand-up paddle board through caves and then use bushcraft skills to build a fire and toast marshmallows. You’ll not only experience the beautiful coastline around Newquay in the most thrilling way possible but also raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and RNLI.

31st December, 12 noon, £45 per person or an affordable charity donation. Call 01637 877722 to book.

Walk The Coast Path

Cornwall is renowned for its stunning coastline. Stride forth and walk along vast stretches of breathtaking Cornish coastline this New Year’s Eve. Experience amazing vistas at every turn with stunning ocean views for your daily dose of vitamin sea.

Waks in Cornwall come into their element during the winter, particularly some of the more sheltered routes around the Roseland peninsula. Uncover stunning sheltered coves, splash in muddy puddles and sip a refreshing pint of Cornish ale in a traditional log-fire pub.

After the hustling bustling chaos of Christmas, a brisk walk along the Cornish coast path is just the tonic.

Explore Cornwall’s Iconic Tin Mines

If you’re a fan of Poldark, you’ll love exploring Cornwall’s mining heritage. Release your inner Captain Ross Poldark on the last day of the year and explore some of Cornwall’s abandoned tin mines. Our favourites include the iconic Wheal Coates in St Agnes, perched on a stunning stretch of coast with epic sea views.

Immerse yourself in Cornish culture with the diverse connected network of mines making up The Great Flat Load. A firm favourite with the locals. Pull on your walking boots and explore these deserted mines for a fascinating insight into a bygone time.

Get on your bike

Hop on your bike and spend the last day of 2018 peddling away. Cycle coast to coast on one of Cornwall’s most popular cycle trails, The Mineral Tramways. For the energetic, we suggest starting at Portreath and cycling the entire route to Deveron. Stop off for a pub lunch at The Old Quay Inn, then hop on your bike and make your way back.

Experience the last sunset

Sunsets in Cornwall are pretty special. Seeing the horizon ablaze in a mesmerising mix of red, gold and orange is a must-see. The last sunset of the year is the perfect way to reflect over 2018. Grab a spot anywhere along the north Cornish coast and you’re in for a treat. For the best view in the house, Perranporth and St Agnes Beacon are hard to beat.
