Meet our Hotel Manager, Yohann Thuillier

With a love of exploring new culinary cultures, we speak with our Hotel Manager Yohann to find out more about his passion for hospitality and love of Cornwall.

Meet The Alverton’s Hotel Manager

Yohann has worked at The Alverton for nearly a year, previously working at its sister hotel The Greenbank for many years prior.

Hospitality has always been a trade that Yohann wanted to pursue, graduating from hospitality school in Paris before taking the plunge and moving to the UK fifteen years ago.

Working in all fields of the industry, from five star hotels and pubs to brasseries and cruise ships, he even dabbled in the kitchen, working as a chef! There’s no doubt that Yohann is very passionate about the food and beverage sector and his love of exploring new culinary cultures.

What’s your favourite thing about working at The Alverton?

The grounds that The Alverton sit on are so grand. From the wonderful verdant gardens and the elegant Great Hall, to the flagstone terrace and historical elements of the building, it’s always a pleasure to be here. The Alverton offers something completely different in Cornwall, when it’s usually all about being by the seaside. It truly is a place like no other.

What’s your favourite Cornish delicacy?

I will have to go with seafood. We’re talking Cornish crab, lobster, oysters… there’s always something remarkable to try. There isn’t enough seafood restaurants out there in Cornwall – we need more!

How would you describe a holiday to Cornwall?

It’s always different. Cornwall is great because it has so much to offer – every time you visit, there’s always something new to experience. It really is quite unique. Whether you’re coming in the summertime for the amazing beaches, in the autumn for a woodland walk, or even in the winter to gaze across the dramatic coastlines; there is always something to do.

Where would you recommend as the ‘must-see’ place for anyone visiting Cornwall?

There’s so many to choose! If I had to pick one, it would have to be Kynance Cove. It’s such a breath-taking place. On a bright sunny day, it’s very difficult to tell whether you’re in Cornwall or the Caribbean – pure bliss!

Finally, can you sum up The Alverton in five words?

Great staff, food, history and gardens.
