Meet Our Marketing Executive, Sophie Curtis

With a passion for all things food, drink and hospitality, we spoke to our new Marketing Executive Sophie, who has recently joined The Alverton Hotel.

Meet The Alverton’s Marketing Executive

Originally born in the South East of England, Sophie grew up in the seaside town of Southend-on-Sea before moving down to Cornwall for university at eighteen, replacing one coastline for another.

After completing her degree in geography, Sophie wasn’t quite ready yet to leave the Cornish coastal town she had come to call home and decided to stay for one more year, which of course turned into three (and ongoing).

With a love of all things food and drink and a passion for hospitality and tourism, Sophie was excited to join the team at The Alverton in June 2021.

Sophie also works for our sister hotel, The Greenbank in Falmouth.

What makes Cornwall so special to you?

Cornwall is such an amazing place. From the beaches and fishing villages to the small coastal towns, I love everything about it. There’s always something to do here. Whether that’s having a BBQ on the beach with friends, or visiting the latest exhibition at the Tate St Ives, there’s never a dull moment in Cornwall.

While Cornwall really shines in the summer, I love being here in the winter when everything slows down a bit. You’ll find plenty of cosy pubs to warm up by the fire in too.

Where would you recommend as the 'must-see' place for anyone visiting Cornwall?

Pedn Vounder is truly magical. I visited it one summer and was absolutely blown away by its beauty. No matter what time of year you visit this coastal spot, you’ll be greeted by turquoise waves and golden beaches.

If you’re a foodie though you can’t beat a trip to Porthleven. You’ll never be short on places to choose to eat there. And if you happen to visit in April, the Food Festival is out of this world!

What Cornish delicacy is your favourite?

It’s got to be a big bowl of Fal mussels with Cornish cream and local wine. I could eat bowls upon bowls of the stuff. With some fresh bread or crispy chips, it’s truly the perfect summer dish.

Finally, can you sum up Cornwall in five words?

It’ll take your breath away.
