Four fantastic gardens perfect for your four-legged friend

With miles of coast path, huge stretches of sandy beaches and wide open spaces, Cornwall is the perfect place to holiday with your hound.

With the great outdoors a key factor of any holiday with dogs we’ve pulled together a selection of our favourite public gardens that welcome pooches, all within a 30 minute drive time from The Alverton. For dog friendly gardens in Cornwall, read our guide here…

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Sample fresh garden goodies in Mevagissey (25 minute drive)

Good for you:

Prepare for a day of discovering a once lost world. Journey through bamboo tunnels, spot majestic tree ferns and stumble across beautiful wildlife, ancient woodlands and fascinating rare plants. Using nature’s bounty, the kitchen at Heligan pluck the freshest produce from the gardens to create delicious food. Make sure you make a beeline to The Heligan Kitchen & Bakery.

Great for your dog:

With over 200 acres for your pooch to explore, and miles of pathways, it’s great for walkies. There’s also lots of new smells to discover in the Victorian Productive Gardens.

Trelissick Gardens

A woodland escape in Feock (15 minute drive)

Good for you:

This National Trust Garden has so much to see and do – get lost in the aromas of the lavender garden and browse the literary treats found in the second-hand bookshop. Pack up a blanket and a picnic and relax all afternoon with a new book and an incredible view of the River Fal.

Great for your dog:

There are lots of different walks to try through miles of extensive park and woodland. With so much space it’s easy to find a secluded route to ramble, but for those more social pooches there are lots of opportunities to meet new friends.

With waterfalls a plenty, a Japanese garden and it’s own lake, Pinetum is a glorious day out. Mosey around this horticultural paradise where over 6000 species of rare and unique plants have been lovingly labelled. Sit and watch the birds and bees bustle between the hibiscus beds and listen to the gentle sounds of the waterfall.

For a relaxing stroll, Pinetum Park and Gardens is a great decision. With an easier terrain it is perfect for dogs of all ages. They’ll enjoy walking through the grassy knolls and splashing in the waterfalls, discovering an array of new scents.

Trebah Garden

Relax on the beach in Falmouth (30 minute drive)

Good for you:

Visit Trebah to truly relax in an oasis of calm. Wander the wooded 25 acre sub-tropical ravine garden that leads to its own beach on the beautiful Helford River. Grab a Roskillys ice cream at Healey’s Boat House and dip your toes in the river. If you’re feeling peckish grab a bite at the Mediterranean-style terrace. The food is fantastic and the surroundings very stylish indeed.

Great for your dog:

It’s a wooded walk through varying terrain with lots of opportunities to explore new ground. On hot days there are canopies overhead and the Helford River to keep them cool.
