The Alverton Recipes: How to make the perfect Espresso Martini

The Alverton Recipes: Our Bar Manager Alex provides the perfect recipe for your favourite tipple

The Espresso Martini

A classic cocktail that mixes vodka and espresso together to perk up your evening. The rich, creamy flavours are an indulgent upgrade to your usual coffee course at dinner parties, or works entirely well on its own as a party cocktail. Whatever the occassion, it will be sure to keep you dancing throughout the evening! Today, Alex will be providing his recipe so you can try the ultimate martini at home…

Alex's top tip:

“It’s important that you use a good quality espresso shot – otherwise the flavour may not shine through and complement the vodka correctly.”

What you will need

  • 25ml premium vodka
  • 25ml Kahlúa coffee liqueur
  • 12ml Amaretto
  • 5ml vanilla syrup
  • 1 espresso shot

Method

  • Fill the martini glass with ice to chill
  • Pour the vodka, Kahlúa and espresso into a cocktail shaker
  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice
  • Put the other half of the shaker on top and give it a good tap to lock it in
  • Shake heavily (the ice needs to be smashed up whilst it’s chilling the liquid inside – this is what creates the creamy top)
  • Once shaken, tap the side of the shaker
  • Empty the ice out of the martini glass
  • Place the strainer on top of the shaker and pour the contents through a sieve directly into the glass
  • Garnish with a few coffee beans to complete the look

And there you have it

Sip, sip, hooray!
