The Alverton’s Cornwall Summer Bucket List

Summer in Cornwall is packed with adventures by the bucket and spade full. With its sweeping coastline, golden beaches, quaint fishing villages, and rolling countryside, it's no wonder so many return year after year. Discover our Cornwall summer bucket list below.

1. Enjoy our lobster on the lawn feast

Where: The Alverton, Truro

On Saturday 26th July and 9th August, our chefs will be rolling out a lobster feast, complete with all the trimmings, and a complimentary glass of bubbles. Served al fresco style on our sun-drenched terrace, this seafood celebration is one of the top events to tick off your Cornwall summer bucket list.

2. Take a dip in a natural tidal pool

Where: Across Cornwall

On Cornwall’s north coast, head to Porthtowan or Perranporth, and plunge into one of our county’s hidden tidal pools. At low tide, these are both magical spots for a quick dip—filled with fresh saltwater sparkling in the sunshine. We recommend wearing wetsuit boots, or sandals to safely navigate the rocky terrain.

3. Experience a day of Dragon Boat racing

Where: The Greenbank, Falmouth

On Saturday 26th July, enjoy a thrilling day of dragon boat racing at our sister hotel, The Greenbank. Setting off from their pontoons, watch the brightly coloured boats race up and down the shoreline, with a pint in hand. What’s more, their below decks pub, The Working Boat, will be serving delicious dirty fries all day.

4. Surf at Fistral Beach

Where: Fistral Beach, Newquay

No Cornish summer is complete without catching a wave, and Newquay’s Fistral Beach is one of Cornwall’s top surfing spots. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, lessons and board hire are readily available if you want to give it a go.

5. Join the Falmouth Week festivities

Every year, Falmouth Week is a highlight of the Cornish summer calendar, with a sailing regatta, shoreside entertainment, and fireworks spectacular. What’s more, our sister hotels are right at the heart of it all.

  • Friday 8th – Kick off the celebrations at The Greenbank with their Pink Wig Pre-Party, before the the joyful Pink Wig Mermaid March.
  • Wednesday 13th – Head to The Falmouth for front row seats to the Red Arrows aerial display, followed by live music from Bryher’s Boys.
  • Friday 15th – Enjoy live music from Falmouth Soul Sensation, and a fireworks display on The Greenbank’s private quay.

6. Wander through the Lost Gardens of Heligan

Where: Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Austell

This summer, step into a world of wonder at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Fun for all the family, wander through towering ferns, discover hidden sculptures, and stroll along ancient woodland paths. If you’re feeling adventurous, don’t miss the jungle rope bridge!

7. Walk the causeway to St Michael’s Mount

Where: St Michael’s Mount, Marazion

For a truly unforgettable Cornish experience, walk the historic, cobbled causeway to the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount. Explore the medieval castle, wander the subtropical gardens, and soak in panoramic sea views. Be sure to check tide times before you go. At high tide, the mount is accessible by ferryboat.

8. Listen to live music by the sea

Where: The Falmouth

On select summer evenings, our sister hotel, The Falmouth, are hosting live music on their sweeping lawns, overlooking the sparkling waters of Falmouth bay. Enjoy the soulful sounds of Our Atlantic Roots on Friday 29th August, and the uplifting melodies of Pendennis Brass Band on Sunday 31st August.

9. Enjoy a Cornish summer BBQ

Where: The Alverton, Truro

Every Friday throughout summer, from 27th June to 5th September, enjoy an indulgent BBQ on our sun-drenched terrace. Featuring a weekly changing menu of prime flame-grilled meats, fresh seafood and vegetarian options, our hidden oasis in the heart of Truro is the perfect spot to kickstart your weekend.

10. Walk the South West coastal path

Where: Across Cornwall

Our Cornwall summer bucket list wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the South West coastal path. Weaving together our county’s beautiful coastline and countryside, there are seemingly endless routes to explore. We recommend the walk from Mullion Cove to the Lizard Peninsula – Britain’s most southerly point.
