Meet our Wedding and Events Assistant Manager, Sally

Starting as a receptionist at The Alverton, Sally has advanced to Wedding and Events Assistant Manager, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm to the team. Join us as we learn about her journey into the events world.

How and why did you get into weddings and events?

My journey started near Cornwall’s coast, where my parents owned a holiday park. Growing up in hospitality, I learned about attention to detail, customer service, and making lasting impressions.

This upbringing ignited my entrepreneurial spirit. I gained teaching qualifications and ran a successful childcare business for over a decade, honing skills in business, organisation, and communication.

Then I started my job at The Alverton.

Seeking new challenges and balance, eventually I transitioned to the hotel industry, working as a receptionist at The Alverton. Here, I discovered the captivating world of events.

And with all things considered I was drawn to its creativity and excitement, I pursued event planning and coordination, leading to my current role.

What does your day-to-day look like?

My schedule reflects a diverse range of events, from corporate functions to social celebrations. Each event brings its own challenges and excitement, making my days fast-paced and dynamic. I handle enquiries, manage bookings, handle administrative tasks, provide client and staff support, address last-minute concerns, and assess event success for improvements. Following this I attend meetings with clients to discuss their requirements and vision, ensuring thorough preparations for every aspect of the event.

What is the favourite thing about your job?

The most fulfilling part of my role is undoubtedly the people. Every day, I have the privilege of working alongside the most incredible team and engaging with hotel guests from all walks of life. I love helping people, listening to their stories, and bringing their visions to life.

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding soon?

Plan early, stay organised and get one thing ticked off your list each month. It’s important to communicate openly with your partner. Prioritise elements that hold sentimental value to both of you. Don’t forget to take moments to breathe, enjoy and cherish the journey together.
