The Great Coast-to-Coast Charity Dinner: 27th February 2025
Five award-winning chefs, from four Cornish regions, delivering five sumptuous courses, for one great cause. Join us in The Alverton’s Great Hall for a dinner to remember.
Things are hotting up at our hotel on the hill as we welcome five Cornish chefs to Truro to showcase their culinary skills and represent their corner of the county at our Great Coast-to-Coast Charity Dinner. On 27th February 2025, take your seat in The Great Hall for a gourmet extravaganza and help us raise money for our beloved industry charity, Hospitality Action.
The Alverton kitchen will be bursting at the seams with some of Cornwall’s most talented chefs for this friendly evening of exceptional food and wines, prepared by some of the most gifted chefs from our shores.
Who’s cooking?
AMUSE BOUCHE
First up we have chef veteran and in-house talent Nick Hodges, our very own Executive Chef at our three hotels – The Alverton, The Greenbank and The Falmouth. With a home advantage, Nick will be shining the spotlight on our great little city with an amuse bouche to warm up everyone’s taste buds, setting the high standard for the evening. Nick will be joined by The Alverton’s Head Chef, Ollie Wyatt and Howard Sellers from Bango Kitchen.
FISH
Flying the flag for north Cornwall is Chris Eden, Executive Head Chef at Watergate Bay hotel. Chris is no stranger to working in Michelin-starred restaurants and winning awards – he is the first Cornishman to win a Michelin star in Cornwall. Chris will be joined by Guy Owen of St Enodoc Hotel, Andrew Tuck from the Tartan Fox and Stephane Delourme.
VEGETABLE
Representing the east Cornish coast is Looe-born-and-bred chef Ben Palmer. Having won the starter at the Parisian banquet for BBC’s Great British Menu 2024, we can’t think of a better person to provide the vegetable course for the evening. Ben heads up his own restaurant, The Sardine Factory, in his hometown. Ben will be joined by Andy Appleton from Appletons and Nikos Oikonomopolous from Yamas.
MAIN
The all-important main course of the evening is in the safe hands of a chef well-known for representing west Cornwall. Head Chef and owner of Kota and Kota Kai in Porthleven, Jude Kereama will be treating us to his signature Asian twist on delectable Cornish seafood. Jude will be joined by Mick Smith of Porthminster Group and Danny Garland from Old Coastguard EDS.
DESSERT
Rounding things off with something sweet and flying the flag for south Cornwall is Tim Kendall. Crowned South West Chef of the Year in 2018, Tim has worked alongside some impressive names in the industry, including Paul Ainsworth, Michel Roux and Chris Eden throughout his career, before pursuing his dream of owning his own restaurant. He and his wife opened The Barley Sheaf in Gorran back in 2020. Tim will be joined by Joe Fallowfield from Fallowfields and Chris Eden from Watergate Bay Hotel.
