Autumn Activities in Cornwall with Children

At one of our favourite times of year, Cornwall remains the perfect place to spend time with your little ones.

Golden autumn days

From pumpkin picking and seal spotting, to local museums and sunsets, explore our list of the best autumn activities in Cornwall with children.

1. Pumpkin picking

As a rural county, Cornwall is spoilt for choice with farms and pumpkin patches, making it the perfect place for this autumn activity. Little ones will love searching for their own pumpkins to carve and saying hello to farm animals.

Many farms offer activities such as tractor rides, hay bale photoshoots, and spooky mazes, so there’s fun for all the family.

2. Autumn sunsets

Catching a sunset is one of our favourite free autumn activities with children. As the nights draw in earlier each evening and the clocks go back in October, there’s no need to compromise on bedtime with your little ones.

Pack a blanket and a flask of hot chocolate, and watch as the skies transition to dreamy pink, violent and orange hues. For an even more magical experience, head to Cornwall’s north coast and watch the sun dip behind the horizon. Pictured is the sunset at Porthtowan Beach.

3. Seal spotting

Autumn in Cornwall is one of the best times for seal spotting. Although seals and their pups can be seen splashing around in Cornish waters all year round, your best bet for getting a glimpse of them is during seal breeding season – between mid-September and January.

One of the best places in Cornwall for seal-spotting is Mutton Cove in Godrevy, on the north coast. Or why not bring your pups for a visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary? During October half term, children can take part in their ‘Bugs and Mini Beasts’ Halloween trail.

4. Indoor museums and attractions

On your Cornwall voyage of discovery, be sure to explore one of the many indoor museums and attractions our county has to offer. From tales of shipwrecks and pirates at the award-winning National Maritime Museum, to the tropical paradise of the Eden Project, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Other venues not to miss are Truro Cathedral and the Royal Cornwall Museum. This October Half Term, the Royal Cornwall Museum are hosting interactive family workshops, trails, exhibitions, and performances. Even better, admission is free for under 18s.

5. Family holidays at The Alverton

This autumn, we’re welcoming adventure seekers big and small through our old oak doors to rest your heads at the end of each exciting day. Even better, during the month of October, we’ll treat your little ones to a complimentary stay on us!

6. Children’s afternoon tea
